Get a powerful second-hand laptop
If you plan to buy a PC for your studies and don’t have or don’t want to spend much money. Here is the right place. I bought a Thinkpad laptop 6 months ago, my old laptop wasn’t able to run virtual machine properly because of its characteristics and i didn’t want to buy something expensive. Today, i am really satisfied with this computer and it is definitely not out of date. I use it for malware analyses, watching movies, programming and I haven’t had any problems.
All you have to do is look for a computer with at least an SSD and 8 GB of RAM. Nowadays, it is essential to have those characteristics for a work laptop.
Hopefully, a used Thinkpad buyers guide has been created by a Redditor :). You wouldn’t have to seek for hours, this guide summarize everything about used Thinkpad.

If you are afraid about the idea to get a dirty laptop, i advise you to go for refurbished sellers. Usually, they change batteries, screen (if dead pixels) and the most important the keyboard. Surely you don’t want to get this corona-disease (or worse a QWERTY keyboard).
Once you have in your hands your used laptop, you can clean it by following this guide and I recommend to do a fresh install.
If you still have questions, there is the following r/Thinkpad subreddit dedicated to Thinkpad. Feel free to ask questions as it is a devotee community.
